Yuki Cafe: Fresh Sushi at Your Fingertips

Yuki Cafe (Sushi & More) is celebrating their 1-year anniversary with an exciting upgrade: a brand-new online ordering system and website, live now at yukicafe.ca. Whether you’re craving sushi, daily specials, or in-season recommendations from Chef Yuki and Eun, the updated system makes ordering fresh, delicious meals faster and easier than ever.

They shared a heartfelt message on their Instagram:

THANK YOU FOR AN INCREDIBLE FIRST YEAR~
Chef Yuki and I wish to express our utmost gratitude for supporting YUKI CAFE (Sushi & More) through our first year of business. We will continue working diligently to provide you with ‘Fresh & Delicious Food at a Reasonable Price’.

Takeout Only for the Remainder of the Year

Due to their small team and growing competition, Yuki Cafe (Sushi & More) will be takeout only until the end of the year. This allows Chef Yuki to focus on preparing each plate with the utmost care and attention. As they explain:

Since our opening on September 14th, 2024, a number of other Japanese restaurants have opened up nearby. For our small 2-person team, we want to focus on something different—providing each plate with more attention than ever before.

This shift doesn’t affect the quality or experience—their new online ordering system makes it easier than ever to get fresh, delicious sushi to-go, while supporting a local favourite.

How the Online Ordering System Works

The new online system is designed with convenience in mind:

  • Daily Recommendations: Chef Yuki and Eun provide fresh arrivals every week, highlighting the best seasonal and in-season sushi options. These daily recommendations are easily viewable online.
  • Category Selector: Quickly browse sushi rolls, sashimi, and other menu items using the new category filter.
  • Order Ahead: Beat the lunch rush or evening crowd by placing your order ahead of time for pick-up.

With this system, you can see what’s fresh, what’s in-season, and what’s recommended for the day—right at your fingertips.

Celebrate Yuki Cafe (Sushi & More)’s 1-Year Anniversary

Yuki Cafe (Sushi & More) is grateful for their loyal community and invites everyone to explore the new online ordering system. It’s the perfect way to enjoy fresh sushi, daily specials, and in-season recommendations—while keeping things convenient and safe with takeout.

One Door Opens, Another Closes

While Pho37 is celebrating a new opening, another long-standing Richmond eatery has recently closed. Cherry’s Food House, a Chinese-Korean fusion spot that’s been serving locals since 2018, shut its doors this past weekend. Rumour has it they may be rebranding into a Sichuan restaurant.

Cherry’s Food House in Richmond Closing September 14th 💛

After six years of serving comforting Chinese-Korean fusion dishes, Cherry’s Food House Richmond has announced that it will officially be closing its doors on September 14, 2025.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the restaurant thanked guests for the memories, writing:

“We’ve shared so many wonderful meals and memories with you, and now it’s time to close this chapter at Cherry’s Food House. Our doors will remain open until September 14th, and we’d love to see you before then for one last meal together. This isn’t goodbye — something new and exciting is coming soon, and we can’t wait to welcome you back in the next chapter.”

Cherry's Tofu House Instagram Message

A Richmond Favourite Since 2018 🍲

Since opening in 2018, Cherry’s Food House has been a staple for Chinese-Korean fusion eats in Richmond. Fans will remember their:

  • Seafood Pancake – an impressively thick, massive portion perfect for sharing
  • Signature Tofu Soup – hearty, comforting, and full of flavour
  • Other homestyle Korean-Chinese classics that kept diners coming back

Earlier this year, they shut down their Aberdeen Centre location, which has since been replaced by Luca Restaurant. Now, their final location is closing too.

What’s Next for Cherry’s Food House? 🌶✨

While it’s sad to see Cherry’s Food House go, the team hinted at a comeback, sharing that “something new and exciting is coming soon.”

Interestingly, a new sign reading “川菜館” (Sichuan Restaurant) has been spotted peeking out beneath the old Cherry’s Food House sign. This suggests that the next chapter could involve a shift toward Sichuan cuisine, which would be an exciting change for local foodies.

For now, you still have until September 14th to enjoy one last meal at Cherry’s Food House Richmond before the doors officially close.

Final Thoughts

From massive seafood pancakes to bubbling bowls of tofu soup, Cherry’s Food House has made its mark on the city’s dining scene. While this chapter is ending, it’s clear that something fresh is on the way — and we’ll be watching closely for what comes next.

Deer Garden Signatures – Hong Kong Style Soup Noodles in Richmond & Vancouver 🍜

If you grew up as a Richmond local, you’ve probably heard of Deer Garden Signatures. Known as one of the OG Hong Kong style soup noodle restaurants, they’ve built a reputation for comforting bowls and generous portions.

Their iconic ordering system is what makes them stand out: you’re handed a paper slip, choose your soup base, noodle type, toppings, and drink, then pass it back to your server. Soon enough, your custom bowl arrives piping hot at the table.

Build-Your-Own Noodle Bowls 🍲

Deer Garden Signatures’ noodle bowls start at $17.25, which includes:

  • 2 toppings of your choice
  • A noodle type of your choice
  • One soup base
  • A hot drink

Add more toppings for $2.75 each, or upgrade to a specialty drink for an extra $2.25. We went with the strawberry milkshake and had no regrets.

This DIY style makes Deer Garden a go-to for anyone who loves customizing their meals.

Here’s what we ordered on our visit:

  • 🍲 My Bowl – Tomato & Pumpkin Fish Soup, Thick Rice Noodles, Mini Cheese Sausages, Fish Fillet
  • 🍲 Bowl 2 – Chaochou Style Dried Fish & Minced Pork Fish Soup, Korean Sweet Potato Crystal Noodles, Sliced Beef, Fish Fillet
  • 🍲 Bowl 3 – Gingko & Pepper Fish Soup, Egg Noodles, Beef Balls, Fish Puff

Every bowl was packed with flavour, and the proteins were tender enough to melt apart.

More Than Just Soup Noodles 🍚🍝

Beyond noodles, Deer Garden Signatures also offers plenty of Hong Kong café-style comfort dishes. We tried their Minced Pork Cake on Rice, which came with generous portions of meat and a comforting home-style flavour.

Their menu also features:

  • Classic baked rice and baked spaghetti dishes
  • Traditional steamed rice sets
  • Café-style drinks and sides

Locations in Richmond and Vancouver 📍

Deer Garden Signatures now has multiple locations — two in Richmond and one in Vancouver. So whether you’re local or visiting, it’s easy to stop by for a bowl.

Most Richmond locals know them well, but if you’re visiting Vancouver, their location there makes it just as convenient to grab a meal.

New DIY Hotpot Concept 🔥

Recently, Deer Garden Signatures also launched a DIY pay-by-weight hotpot concept. Think of it as the modern version of their soup noodle setup — but with full hotpot ingredients you can pick and choose from their self-serve ingredients bar.

Our top 3 favourite soup bases were:

  • 🍅 Tomato Soup
  • 🌶️ Sichuan Spicy Soup
  • 🍋 Thai Tom Yum Soup

At the end of the meal, they serve a free seasonal dessert — we got to pick between soft serve ice cream and black sesame pudding.

If you’re not in the mood for hotpot, Deer One also offers a variety of snacks and bubble teas, making it a versatile spot whether you’re going for a full hotpot experience or just a quick bite.

Final Thoughts – Why Deer Garden Signatures Is Still an OG ✅

With multiple locations across Richmond and Vancouver, Deer Garden Signatures has become a staple of the Lower Mainland dining scene. From their nostalgic paper slip ordering system to their filling bowls of noodles, they’ve stayed true to their roots while branching out into new dining concepts like Deer One Hotpot.

If you’re craving authentic Hong Kong style soup noodles — or want to try a modern pay-by-weight hotpot — this innovative team has something for you. And if you’re a noodle lover, you’ll also want to check out our review of Yunshang Rice Noodle, another local favourite.

Piggy Bros specializes in Sichuan spicy braised dishes, with pork hock being the star of the show. Their slow-braised pork is melt-in-your-mouth tender, each bite packed with rich flavour.

The pork belly rice is another must-try, with layers of fatty, juicy pork that balance perfectly with rice. If you’re into spice, the spicy clams deliver a numbing, Sichuan peppercorn kick. To cool things down, finish with their refreshing coconut jelly dessert.

Huge Portions at Affordable Prices

One of the biggest draws of Piggy Bros Richmond is their massive portion sizes. Every container is filled to the brim with meat, veggies, and rice — making it one of the best values in Richmond if you’re craving Sichuan comfort food.

Each rice set comes with:
🍚 Steamed rice
🥬 Veggies
🥚 Spicy Sichuan marinated quail eggs

This makes every meal feel hearty and complete, giving you way more value compared to most takeout options in Richmond.

A New Location (Piggy Bros Richmond)

Piggy Bros promotional banner outside storefront

Piggy Bros just moved into their new spot at 110-8291 Westminster Hwy, Richmond BC, about a week ago. You can’t miss it — there’s a huge banner right outside the front entrance where you’ll pick up your food.

They operate out of a commissary kitchen, so it’s takeout-only, but ordering is simple:

  • Pickup → Head to the front counter at the new location.
  • Delivery → Available on UberEats under “Zhu Zhu Bros” or Fantuan under “Piggy Bros”.

💡 Current Deal: Right now on the Fantuan app, you can score their Super Value Chicken Drum Rice for just $9.90 — a filling, budget-friendly option if you want to try them out for the first time.

Do note, since they’re still new and getting settled in, wait times can be a little long (we waited about an hour). But for the flavour and portions, it’s worth it.

BiteBuddy’s Take

We loved trying Piggy Bros Richmond. Their braised pork dishes are unbelievably tender, and the portion sizes live up to the hype. Our personal favourite was the pork hock rice — comforting, rich, and deeply satisfying.

Sushi in Japan vs North America: What’s the Difference? 🍣

Sushi in Japan vs North America is a tale of tradition meeting creativity. While Japanese sushi focuses on simplicity like nigiri and hosomaki, North American sushi often takes the form of bold, inventive rolls with rice on the outside.

In Japan, sushi tends to be much simpler. You’ll find nigiri (a slice of fresh fish over rice) or hosomaki (thin rolls with just one filling, like tuna or cucumber). But once sushi made its way to North America, it evolved into something more creative, playful, and fusion-focused.

Food always adapts to its culture, and sushi is no exception. To see the difference up close, we visited three local Vancouver spots to try both classic Japanese styles and the creative North American twists.

🍣 Sushi Han – Richmond

📍Location: 8180 No 2 Rd #182, Richmond

At Sushi Han, the rolls lean into that creative North American flair. We tried:

  • Mango California Roll
  • Chopped Scallop Roll
  • Cheese Hill Roll
  • Aburi Seafood Roll

From creamy scallops to smoky aburi and even tropical mango, Sushi Han’s menu shows how sushi in Vancouver has evolved into fusion comfort food.

🍣 Sushi Mura – Richmond

Sushi Mura - Dynamite Roll, Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese Roll, Chopped Scallop Roll

📍Location: 6928 Pearson Wy #115, Richmond

A local favourite, Sushi Mura (check out our review!) is known for large portions and value. We ordered:

  • Chopped Scallop Roll
  • Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese Roll
  • Dynamite Roll

The smoked salmon cream cheese roll was a standout for us — a perfect example of that rich, indulgent North American sushi style.

🍣 Yuki Cafe – Vancouver

📍 3612 Kingsway, Vancouver

Yuki Cafe blends tradition with creativity. Featured on our instagram reel were:

  • Aburi Salmon Toro Trio
  • Assorted Hosomaki

The hosomaki here is simple and clean, reflecting the more traditional Japanese approach. But the aburi toro trio brought in that Vancouver signature flame-seared touch, bridging both worlds.

🎥 Sushi in Japan vs North America: What’s the Difference?

We broke down all the differences between Japanese sushi and North American rolls, highlighting how sushi has evolved into something much more creative here in Vancouver. From classic nigiri and hosomaki in Japan to uramaki and fusion rolls in North America, the contrast is fascinating — and delicious. To bring this to life, we visited some of our favorite Vancouver sushi spots and captured everything in action.

🌏 Sushi Evolves Wherever It Goes

Whether you prefer the simplicity of Japanese nigiri and hosomaki, or the bold creativity of North American rolls, one thing is certain — sushi is loved worldwide, and it continues to evolve with every culture it touches.

👉 What’s your go-to order: a classic tuna hosomaki, or a loaded dynamite roll?
