If you’ve been missing your DIY malatang fix at 6289 Kingsway, we have some news—and it involves a lot more cilantro and lime.

Diva’s Latin-Mex Restaurant is officially prepping for its grand opening in the space formerly occupied by Jojo Pot. It’s a huge change for the block, trading in the refrigerated hot pot shelves for a menu that leans heavily into authentic Latin American flavours.

A Colombian-Mexican Mashup

What’s cool about Diva’s is that they aren’t just sticking to one region. Based on the posters we spotted, they’re bringing some heavy-hitting Colombian dishes to Burnaby:

  • Bandeja Paisa: The ultimate Colombian platter (expect beans, rice, chicharron, and more).
  • Salchipapas: The iconic street food mix of thinly sliced sausages and fries.
  • Picadas: Massive shared platters of grilled meats and veggies.

But if you’re strictly in the mood for Mexican, they’ve got you covered with all the classics like loaded nachos, enchiladas, and burritos. It’s basically a “choose your own adventure” across Latin America.

The Vibe Shift

We peeked through the windows, and the transformation is already looking impressive. The minimalist hot pot vibe is out, and they’ve installed a giant mural on one of the main walls that already gives the space a ton of personality.

Between the recent Baohaus opening just down the street and the massive crowds we saw at the Money Foods opening at Crystal Mall, it’s clear that this pocket of Burnaby is on a serious winning streak for new food lately.

While there isn’t an official date for the Diva’s Latin-Mex Burnaby opening just yet, the fact that the signage is up and the decor is almost finished means we’re likely only weeks away from a soft launch.

Are you excited to see some Colombian food hit this stretch of Kingsway? We’re already eyeing that Bandeja Paisa. Let us know what you’re ordering first over on Instagram!
