A couple months ago, we reported that Kingspark Steakhouse in Richmond had been sold.

Now, there’s another update — and it doesn’t look promising.

This week, a handwritten notice appeared on the door stating that the restaurant is temporarily closed for renovations. There’s no reopening date and no additional details — just a short message about work being done inside.

We also had a peek inside, and there weren’t any signs of renovation work actually being done.

If you read between the lines, this likely marks the end of Kingspark Steakhouse as we knew it.

The restaurant has long been a go-to Hong Kong cafe spot in Richmond, known for classic comfort dishes like baked pork chop on rice, sizzling plates, and milk tea. And with the business already sold, a “renovation” closure like this often signals a full handover to the new owners rather than a simple refresh.

In other words, Kingspark may have quietly served its final baked pork chop on rice.

A Changing Hong Kong Cafe Scene in Richmond

At the moment, it’s still unclear what’s coming next for the space. It’s possible the new owners keep a similar Hong Kong cafe concept — or they could take it in a completely different direction. We’ll have to wait and see.

For now though, it looks like Richmond has one less Hong Kong cafe.

On the bright side, the Hong Kong cafe scene in Richmond isn’t disappearing — it’s just shifting.

A new franchise of Café Gloucester is expected to open soon in Richmond, taking over the old Little Karp location. It’s another sign that while some long-standing spots are quietly closing or changing hands, new HK-style cafes are still continuing to move into the city.

If you’re looking to get your HK cafe fix, check out Night Owl Cafe, and also keep an eye on One Cafe, which is expected to open at Lansdowne Centre soon.
