The food court at Crystal Mall just got a major injection of energy (and some seriously long lineups). After months of anticipation and “coming soon” signs, One Cafe has finally arrived on the second floor, and the crowds are already next-level.

The 9:30 AM Rush

We decided to swing by at 9:30 AM this past Friday, thinking we’d beat the rush. We were wrong. The line for the One Cafe Crystal Mall grand opening was absolutely insane, stretching almost the entire length of the food court.

It honestly makes you wonder—doesn’t anyone have a 9-to-5 to get to? But once you see the menu, the dedication starts to make sense. In a city where a coffee and a sandwich can easily push $20, these prices feel like a time machine back to 2015.

What’s on the Menu?

One Cafe is built on the classic Hong Kong “Cha Chaan Teng” spirit: fast, filling, and cheap.

  • The Basics: You can grab a bowl of soup noodles for around $10.
  • The Big Breakfast: Their famous breakfast plates—which include creamy scrambled eggs, a thick slab of buttered toast, and a steak—start at just $11.
  • The Upgrade: If you’re feeling extra hungry, you can add a side of soup noodles to your plate for just an extra $2.50.

It’s the kind of comfort food that explains why people are willing to stand in a food court for an hour on a weekday morning.

The Growing Empire

If you aren’t a fan of the Burnaby crowds, don’t forget that this brand is expanding fast. We’re still keeping a close eye on the One Cafe Lansdowne location which is gearing up to be their fourth spot.

Between this opening and the recent buzz around Money Foods Ent nearby, it feels like the local food court game is more competitive than ever.
