Whether you’re looking to save a ten-dollar bill or trying to conquer a five-bowl beast, Ramen Takanotsume is currently the most interesting spot in Aberdeen Centre. Most ramen in Richmond is hovering around $20 these days, so their current promotion is a massive outlier.

Here is the breakdown on the Ramen Taka deal, the $10 happy hour, and the legendary “Giga Dragon” challenge for those who have a much larger appetite.

Ramen Taka

1. The $10 Happy Hour (The “Survival” Deal)

If you’re looking for a high-quality lunch that doesn’t break the bank, the Ramen Taka deal is currently the best value on the second floor. While the “Ultimate” bowls are great, this promo gets you back to the basics.

  • The Price: $10 flat (weekdays only, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM).
  • The Flavors: Choose from Shoyu (Dragon’s Dewdrop), Shio (White Dragon), or Miso (Supreme Dragon).
  • The Portion: It is a regular-sized bowl, but if you’re extra hungry, you can add an extra half-serving of noodles for just $2 to make it more filling without doubling the price of your lunch.
  • No Holidays: This deal is strictly for regular weekdays. Don’t show up on a stat holiday expecting the discount!
  • Location: Find them at Unit 2780 on the second floor. Look for the giant eagle painted on the wall (it’s a great spot for a “wing” photo while you wait).

2. The Giga Dragon Challenge (The “Warrior” Deal)

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum is the Giga Dragon Challenge. This isn’t just a meal; it’s a Richmond food legend. If you think you can handle a massive amount of Asahikawa-style broth and noodles, here are the ground rules for “slaying the dragon.”

The Stats: The Giga Dragon is equivalent to 5 regular-sized bowls of ramen. You have to finish every single noodle and every last drop of broth to win.

The Rules:

  • Time Limit: 30 minutes.
  • The Stakes: If you finish, the meal is FREE. If you fail, you have to pay the cost equivalent of 4 bowls of ramen.
  • No Breaks: You aren’t allowed to leave the table or take a bathroom break once the timer starts.
  • The Fame: Winners get their photo posted on Ramen Taka’s social media Hall of Fame.

The best part? You no longer need an advanced reservation to try this. They recently received more “Giga Bowls” from Japan, so up to four people can attempt the challenge at the same time. It’s the perfect (and slightly terrifying) group activity if you and your friends think you have the stomach for it.

What Else is at Aberdeen?

As we mentioned in our Aberdeen Centre Food Update, the mall has seen some major closures lately, like Garaku and Meiten. Takanotsume is smart—they’re using this aggressive pricing to keep foot traffic coming to the west side of the mall while everyone waits for the new Taoke to open up.
