The rapid-fire turnover on Richmond’s Alexandra Road continues. Just a week after we reported on the closure of Golden Time BBQ, another “Eat Street” veteran is being officially replaced by a brand-new concept.

If you’ve been searching for a new Japanese AYCE in Richmond, you’re in luck. The signage for Ten’ichi Izakaya is now officially up at 8391 Alexandra Rd, taking over the unit that was home to the legendary Manzo Izakaya for over 26 years.

The New Tenant

Manzo Izakaya left big shoes to fill after closing its doors back in March. Ten’ichi Izakaya is wasting no time, having already installed their bold new signage.

While the space is staying within the Izakaya family, the service model is shifting. Based on the new banners, Ten’ichi will be an All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) operation. This is a savvy move for the area, as the hunger for “value-per-dollar” dining in Richmond has never been higher.

Who is Ten’ichi?

Word on the street is that Ten’ichi is a mom-and-pop operation run by owners who previously operated a Japanese restaurant in Toronto before moving to the West Coast. While they are new to BC, they seem to be hitting the ground running.

Peeking through the windows, much of the classic Izakaya interior remains intact, which means we could see a very quick opening—potentially within the next few weeks.

The Alexandra Road Hotspot

Alexandra Road is famously competitive, and spots rarely stay empty for long—unless you’re counting the Bellwether unit, which famously sat empty for two years before Happy Lamb finally stepped in.

The Current Shuffle:

  • Next Door: Golden Time BBQ has closed, with a new Korean BBQ concept moving in.
  • Replacing Manzo: Ten’ichi Izakaya (AYCE).
  • Replacing Little Karp: Cafe Gloucester is currently prepping for their first Richmond expansion.
