It’s always tough to write these posts, especially when it’s about a team we’ve genuinely bonded with. We were there for the Eldoria BBQ and Bar grand opening on Robson Street just five months ago, and we’ve been rooting for them ever since.
Unfortunately, despite the heart and soul the owners poured into the space, Eldoria has officially closed its doors.
A Unique Concept in a Tough Location
Eldoria wasn’t your run-of-the-mill BBQ joint. They were known for their signature BBQ ribs and a super unique “bell pepper burger” that swapped out traditional buns for crunchy peppers.

The owners were some of the hardest-working people we’ve met in the industry. Every time we visited, something new was added to make the second-floor space more fun—foosball tables, sports on the big screens, a Pac-Man machine that actually gave out food prizes, and they were even dreaming of a karaoke setup.

The $14,000 Monthly Hurdle
Despite the vibe, Eldoria faced two massive obstacles: visibility and overhead. The entrance on Robson was easy to miss—literally just the width of a single doorway leading to the second floor. Even with creative moves like adding Pho to the menu to attract a different crowd or letting customers play Rock-Paper-Scissors with staff for discounts, the foot traffic just wasn’t there.
The owners shared with us that they were hit with a staggering $14,000 monthly rent bill. When you combine that kind of overhead with a hidden entrance, the math simply stops working. It’s a harsh reminder that owning a restaurant isn’t just about great food and hospitality; it’s a brutal game of margins and location.
A Growing Trend of Closures
It’s been a rough season for local favourites; Eldoria BBQ and Bar closed its doors alongside other recent departures like Katte in Lansdowne and the long-standing Kingspark Steakhouse.
We’re sending our best to the Eldoria team—they tried everything in the playbook, and we’re sad to see them go. For a look back at our first visit to the space, check out our Instagram here.
