The next time you ask a restaurant host for a window table in Richmond, you might want to think twice.

Last Thursday, Sushi Han at the Blundell Centre (No. 2 Road and Blundell) became the latest victim in what is starting to feel like a bizarre, real-life game of bumper cars. A car literally drove straight through the front windows right next to the entrance.

The silver lining? Miraculously, nobody was hurt. And surprisingly—in a city where EV mishaps are practically a local meme—it wasn’t a Tesla this time.

“I’m Terrified of Sitting Near Windows Now”

If you’ve been tracking local social media lately, the comment sections are shifting from hungry foodies to genuinely anxious diners. Over on Reddit and Xiaohongshu, threads about the incident are filled with people echoing the exact same sentiment: “I am officially terrified of sitting near windows now.”

Sushi Han comment

Honestly? We agree with them.

When you think about the layout of most strip malls in Richmond—including the Blundell Centre—the parking stalls are positioned right up against the curb, directly facing the glass windows. All it takes is one accidental slip of the foot, mistaking the gas pedal for the brake, and a routine parking job turns into an absolute disaster.

Is This the 5th or 6th Time This Year?

It seriously feels like we are averaging one of these a month. Local commenters are trying to keep count, asking if this is the 5th or 6th store to take a vehicle to the face in the past 12 months.

It’s becoming an incredibly frustrating pattern:

  • March 2026: Just a couple of months ago, we reported on the Pokerrito window crash when a vehicle plowed right into their storefront.
  • The Archives: From the infamous Tesla “N” driver that permanently took out the old Chung Chun Rice Hot Dog spot on No. 3 Road to the backing-up disaster at Bubble World in Union Square, our storefronts are going through it.

Go Support the Team

We love Sushi Han. If you’ve read our Sushi Han review, you know they are one of our favourite low-key, reliable neighbourhood spots for affordable rolls and party trays. The staff are incredibly sweet, and the last thing a local business needs is a massive repair bill and a boarded-up front window cutting into their foot traffic.

They are still pushing forward, but if you do head in for a spicy tuna roll this week, maybe opt for a booth deep in the back.

Are you skipping the window tables from now on, or do you think the city needs to start installing giant concrete bollards in front of every strip mall? Let us know over on Instagram!
