If you’ve spent any time in Richmond lately, you’ve probably heard of Cha Don. Since opening at the Empire Centre Food Court in 2024, they’ve become the “it” spot for authentic HK-style food.
But let’s be real—the lines are getting long, and sometimes you just want a booth, a TV, and a classic milk tea without the food court chaos.
While the new spots get the hype, there are several Hong Kong Cafes in Richmond that have been serving up perfection for years (or decades). Here are three underrated spots you need to try.
1. Night Owl Cafe (The Hidden Mom-and-Pop)
This is the definition of “hidden in plain sight.” Night Owl Cafe is a tiny, family-run spot tucked away on Sexsmith Road—an area mostly known for offices, not dining. Because of its location and the fact that it closes at 3:00 PM, it stays completely under the radar for most foodies.
- What to try: Their All-Day Breakfast is legendary and surprisingly hard to find at other HK cafes. They also do tossed noodles better than almost anyone else in the city.
- The Insider Tip: If you have time to wait, their Baked Pork Chop on Rice is arguably the best in Richmond, and their Milk Tea is consistently top-tier.

2. Kingspark Steak House (The OG Legend)
Don’t let the name fool you. While they call themselves a steakhouse, Kingspark has been one of the most reliable Hong Kong Cafes in Richmond for over 15 years. It’s the kind of place with comfy booths and big-screen TVs—perfect for catching up on food shows while you eat.
- What to try: Their Baked Spinach and Salmon Rice is a cult favourite. We also highly recommend the Seafood Chow Mein, which hits that perfect balance of crispy noodles and savoury sauce.
- The Warning: Sadly, the word on the street is that Kingspark has been sold. It’s unclear how much longer they’ll be operating under the current vibe, so get your fix soon.

3. Peaches Cafe (The Alexandra Road Staple)
Located right on the famous “Food Street” (Alexandra Road), Peaches Cafe captures the bright, funky, and bustling energy of a true Hong Kong diner. They stay true to the “snack” culture that is so vital to the Cha Chaan Teng experience, and offer some classics like French Toast and Curry Fish Balls.
- What to try: This is the spot for the “Big Three” of HK snacks: French Toast, Pineapple Bun with Butter, and Curry Fish Balls.
- The Vibe: The interior is brightly decorated and feels much more like a traditional cafe than the newer, minimalist stalls.
(See the photos from our last visit in our [Peaches Cafe review here].)

Cha Don is great for a quick food court fix, but if you want the full experience, these three spots offer something the new stalls can’t: history, seating, and that specific “neighborhood” feel.
