When people think of Time Out Market Vancouver, “cheap” probably isn’t the first word that comes to mind.

Located inside the new Oakridge Park food hall, Time Out Market brings together some of Vancouver’s biggest restaurant names, famous chefs, and premium dining concepts all under one roof.

So when we visited the market with one goal in mind — finding the cheapest proper meal available — we were honestly surprised by what we found.

A cheeseburger.

Not just any cheeseburger either. A cheeseburger from Rob Feenie, one of Vancouver’s most influential chefs.

Feenie's cheeseburger for 13.99

If you’re unfamiliar with the name, Rob Feenie has played a huge role in the city’s dining scene for decades. He’s best known as the first Canadian to win Iron Chef America and later helped shape the culinary direction of Cactus Club Cafe as its executive chef and food concept architect.

For a food hall where many dishes easily reach the $20–$30 range, Feenie’s $13.99 cheeseburger immediately caught our attention.

And after trying it ourselves, we can see why the line never seems to disappear.

A Burger for Every Budget

One thing we found interesting about Feenie’s menu is that it covers a huge range of price points.

At the entry level, you have the Feenie’s Cheeseburger for $13.99.

Of course, it’s very easy to increase your bill. You can upgrade to a double patty for another $3.99, add fries for $5.99, or grab a soda for another $4.

And if you really want to experience the luxury side of Time Out Market, Feenie’s also offers the Le Croc Burger featuring a 6oz wagyu patty for $27.99, with optional upgrades like foie gras for $19.99 and port wine jus for $13.99.

Do the math, and yes — that can turn into a very expensive burger.

But honestly, we appreciate that they didn’t force every customer into the premium experience. In a food hall where spending under $20 can actually be difficult, having a simple $13.99 option makes Feenie’s one of the most approachable vendors in the market.

The $13.99 Cheeseburger: Does It Actually Taste Good?

Usually when you see the cheapest item on a menu, you expect some compromises.

Maybe it’s a tiny portion. Maybe it’s missing toppings. Maybe it’s just there to get people in the door.

That wasn’t the case here.

The first surprise was the beef itself.

Even the most affordable burger uses a wagyu beef patty, which is not something we expected at this price point.

Size-wise, this also wasn’t some tiny slider pretending to be a meal. The burger came with a proper quarter-pound smashed patty and felt like a legitimate lunch.

More importantly, it tasted good.

The patty was juicy and cooked well, the cheese and sauce worked together without overpowering the beef, and everything felt balanced.

If we had one criticism, we would have liked the bun to have a little more toast and texture. That’s a personal preference, but a slightly crispier bun would have added another layer of contrast to the burger.

Still, at $13.99, it’s hard to complain.

Why Is There Always a Line?

Feenie's at Time Out Market

During our visits to Time Out Market Vancouver, Feenie’s consistently had one of the longer lineups.

Part of that is obviously the name behind the counter.

Rob Feenie is a chef that many Vancouverites already know.

But we also think the pricing plays a huge role.

When most vendors are charging around $20 or more for a full meal, a well-executed $13.99 burger becomes a very attractive option.

Honestly, if we were visiting Time Out Market again and wanted a filling meal without spending $30, this would probably be one of our first stops.

Final Verdict

Feenie’s proves that “cheap” doesn’t have to mean boring.

Is it the most extravagant meal at Time Out Market? Not even close.

But that’s exactly why it works.

For $13.99, you’re getting a well-made burger from one of Vancouver’s most recognizable chefs at a price that’s genuinely difficult to find anywhere else in the market.

And considering the lineup we saw every time we walked by, we’re probably not the only ones who think so.
